How do I obtain paper files, formation tops, and well logs?
We are in the process of scanning,
keyboarding and digitizing this information. Currently paper files, formation tops, and well logs
for the deep wells (those that reach the Trenton) are available online to ESOGIS members.
If you are not a member or if you wish to get data for wells other than the deep wells
you can determine what data is available by viewing the query results.
You can then obtain the data (.pdf, .tiff, and .las) by contacting
us and receiving a CD/DVD with the data. We can also provide you
with information about becoming an ESOGIS member at that time. The
cost of this data varies depending on the amount and type and will
be determined at the time of your request. The paper files and well
logs are also available for photocopying at the DEC field office in
the region you are interested in.
How do I create a project and save wells in it?
Once you have logged in you can create a new project by following the
'My Well Projects' link on the left menu bar. Select 'create new project' and then follow the directions
for naming and describing you project. You may have multiple projects, all of which can be accessed from
the 'My Well Projects' page. The project that is currently active is displayed in the header of all pages next to
your user name (current project). To save wells to your current project query wells using the left menu bar and
when the results are displayed check the checkbox(s) of the desired wells and then click "Save Selected Wells to Current Project'
You can then view your project wells by opening the main project page or by following the links on the
search results page.
How do I search for wells by quad, town, county or field?
Use the 'Location' link on the Search Wells By menu. You can then use the drop down menus
to select the search method and name of location to be searched. You may limit those results
by using the check boxes provided on the search form.
How do I view all of the fields that produce from the Trenton or Black River Formations?
Use the 'Field Search' link on the Advanced Searches menu. On the lower half of the following form
you can choose up to 2 formations. By clicking 'Search' you will see all of the fields that have wells
producing from EITHER of the formations which you selected. You can then click on any of the field names
to view the statistics and wells for that field.
How do I request a query that is not currently available?
We are continually developing
the ESOGIS and our goal is to provide search utilities that are useful
to you. Please contact us with your request
and we will do our best to accommodate you.
How do I obtain and plot well
locations?
Once you have obtained your query
results (for instance, all of the wells in a town with digital logs)
choose to download the results to a text file. The well locations
(lat./lon.) are provided in this file and can be placed in a GIS.
As of this release UTM locations are not available in this text file.
However, if you would like to have the UTM locations you can do one
of two things (1) use CORPSCON
to convert to the Lat./lon. to UTM or (2)
contact us and we will provide you with this information. Once
you have the locations you can enter them into a GIS and generate
a map or we could produce the map for you at a minimal cost. We are
continually developing the ESOGIS and our goal is to provide search
utilities that are useful to you. Please contact
us with your request and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Development of The ESOGIS is overseen by the Reservoir Characterization Group at The New York State Museum with
funding contributed by NYSERDA and Fortuna Energy.
We are also working closely with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to ensure that
the most accurate information is always made available. If you have questions or comments please
