The Hydrocarbon Reservoir Characterization Group (RCG) is overseen by the New York State Museum, providing free and custom oil and gas well-related data.
Mission
RCG is, in part, responsible for providing
access to all publicly available New York State oil and gas well-related data.
This is done primarily through the Empire State Oil and Gas Information
System (ESOGIS) esogis.nysm.nysed.gov.

Custom Data
In addition to publicly available New York State oil and gas well-related data, RCG regularly gathers and processes additional custom data available on an a la carte and subscription plan basis.
A la carte
ESOGIS enables you to acquire several file types on a per file or per well a la carte basis, including:
- TIF files - digital logs - scanned charts
- LAS files - raster logs - ASCII text
- PDF files - paper files - scanned documents
Platinum Plan
The Platinum Plan includes online access to all Deep Well depth registers (i.e. .DRA and .LIC files), all well digital logs (.LAS files), raster logs (.TIF files), paper files (.PDF files - scanned documents), lists of formation tops per well, directional log files (.PDF and .TXT files), and cross sections (by request); as well as project support for GeoGraphix and Petra.
Platinum Plan - Renewal
Starting in the 2nd year you may choose to renew at a reduced cost.
Gold Plan
The Gold Plan includes online access to all well raster logs (.TIF files), paper files (.PDF files - scanned documents), lists of formation tops per well, directional log files (.PDF and .TXT files), and cross sections (by request); as well as project support for GeoGraphix and Petra.

Silver Plan
The Silver Plan includes online access to all well paper files (.PDF files - scanned documents), and lists of formation tops per well.
