ESOGIS is overseen by the New York State Museum (NYSM).

Mission

NYSM is, in part, responsible for providing access to all publicly available New York State oil well and gas well-related data. This is done primarily through the Empire State Organized Geologic Information System (ESOGIS) esogis.nysm.nysed.gov. NYSM also performs and promotes research in New York State, emphasizing the potential for oil and gas development and storage, carbon sequestration, and geo-thermal applications. NYSM employs ArcGIS, GeoGraphix and Petra to facilitate documentation of its research projects. NYSM works closely with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to ensure that data is accurate and up-to-date.
